Similarly, Lam’s own pelipper toted his shinx through open air. Noodle chattered excitedly as wind whipped through gold and black fur. Lam couldn’t hear it from that distance, but it was a common enough sound from the small feline that it was assumed.[break][break]

Behind them, a wattrel flapped along as it kept up with the lazy pace of the larger bird.[break][break]

While his preference held for avians and flying-types in general, electric sorts held a close second, and this seemed to be the place to find them. Or one of them, anyway. And if he was gonna do this whole gym circuit thing, it was smart to expand.[break][break]

Another pelipper caught his eye, curiosity sparking when he noticed a pawmi being carried as well. Lam turned, catching sight of another figure as she called out to her Pokémon. Hailing her with a wave, Lam grinned and tilted his head toward his own team before tapping his temple. [break][break]

“Great minds, right?”

“Funny coincidence. Pelipper be mad useful, though,” he added with a laugh.[break][break]

The totodile ambling along without a care in the world was not nearly as cautious and threatening as the kingler despite all the big teeth. In fact it trotted right up to Lam, looking up expectantly.[break][break]

“Whatchu want, lil dude?” he asked the excitable little croc as he stooped down next to it. It held out a stubby arm. Maybe people liked to feed the Pokémon up here sometimes?[break][break]

Or maybe this totodile was just feeling his oats. Either way, the confidence worked and Lam offered a Berry from his pocket. while the totodile was munching away, he tapped it with a spare ball.[break][break]

“Oh, not yet. This is my first trip out here. You?”

He could understand the sentiment. His own pelipper was sometimes a bit…well, dopey. But that was what the shinx she carried was for.[break][break]

“It’s early, so I’m sure you’re right!” Amazingly early, for him, anyway. So even if it wasn’t actually that early in the day, the fact that he was up out of bed and out of the apartment at this time was a feat in and of itself.[break][break]

“Yeah, sure! Why not?” he grinned before extending a hand in greeting, “Lam.” Whistling to call his crew back, the pelipper swooped low and Noodle jumped down. Maybe just a touch too early, as he tumbled across the ground, head over tail.[break][break]

At least he popped back up quickly enough, on the prowl for the first thing he spotted—a togedemaru that he swifted CRUNCHED down on the tail of, then proudly dragged back to Lam as any feline might.

“Good job!” he praised the shinx, once the togedemaru was contained in a pokeball. “Likewise! This one here is Noodle.” Then he pointed upward, “The pelipper is Honeydew and the wattrel is Pomelo!” Clearly, a food-themed habit. “You’re pawmi, just pawmi, is mad cute, though.”[break][break]

Even if it was kinda hard to see from the ground.[break][break]

A luxray prowled nearby, watching the group warily. Noodle, clearly unfazed by the larger size of his fully evolved counterpart, scampered up to the luxray. Then lowered in a play crouch—all wiggles before springing at its paw.[break][break]

The luxray lifted that massive paw and shook him loose with ease, sending him rolling away. Its tail swished lazily, though. Welcoming more play attacks. “You lucked out little dude,” Lam called out with an edge of exasperation in his voice.[break][break]

His attention drifted back to Maisy. “Always up to something, that one.”

He hadn’t managed to find a pawmi yet, but they seem like little rascals. Probably a good thing in his case— he already had his hands full with this shinx.[break][break]

“He’s definitely not lacking in hubris,” Lam replied dryly with a short laugh, “that’s for sure.” Noodle meanwhile, had rolled over, belly up like a dead bug as he continued to paw at the bigger luxray.[break][break]

His attention turns back to Maisy just before he tosses a ball at the luxray, figuring it’s sufficiently distracted. “Oh, yeah! I do, but I’m sort of new to it all.”[break][break]

Only just started taking it seriously, really. “You?”
